Background – Worshiping, Growing and Serving
Risen Savior Lutheran School has been adding one grade per year and currently serves children from Kindergarten through 4th Grade. This fall, the school will be adding Grade 5. Risen Savior is focused on exceeding Arizona Standards, but even more importantly, it is centered on Jesus Christ. In addition to students being challenged academically, they also grow in their faith in daily Religion Class, praying at the beginning and end of the school day and worshiping in weekly Chapel. They also participate in service projects as they learn how to put their faith into action.
Academics
Although Arizona schools may collectively have a reputation for low academic achievement scores when compared to other states, Risen Savior has set our standards high. As a result our students succeed as consistently demonstrated in our national standardized test scores. For the 2011-2012 school year, the school scored in the 94th percentile when compared to schools throughout the country.
Colors – Mascot
The school colors are blue and gold. Our school mascot is the eagle, based on the Bible passage found in Isaiah 40:31,
But those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles.
Grade Levels
Full Day Kindergarten: Our Full Day Kindergarten meets each week day for six 1/2 hours. The Kindergarten curriculum covers learning in all areas of development-social, emotional, physical, intellectual, language and aesthetic. All areas of the Kindergarten curriculum are integrated into the learning environment with a focus on Arizona Academic Standards. Curricular areas such as writing, reading, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, art and music are integrated through themes, projects, and self-selected activities. Hands-on experiences comprise the main vehicle of instruction with attention given to each student’s individuality.
Elementary Grades: Our elementary grades meet meet each week day for 6 1/2 hours per day. The curriculum meets Arizona’s academic standards and is enhanced with additional emphasis from the instructor while focusing on the ability of individual children. Modest sized class sizes and individualized attention contribute to the growth and development of children through cooperative learning. While many schools focus only on linguistic and mathematical intelligences, Risen Savior Lutheran School utilizes multiple intelligences accounting for a broader range of human potential for our students.
