Specials Curriculum

Every student at Risen Savior Lutheran School has the option of participating in special programs throughout the week, depending on their age group.

Spanish
Language skills develop rapidly during early childhood and this is a great time to expose children to a foreign language. Spanish is offered in every classroom once a week.  Lessons get progressively more in depth as the children grow. For example, two year olds will learn labels for colors and shapes, while First Graders can converse in simple sentences.

Art Appreciation
Every classroom has open-ended art projects, where the students can express their creativity without fear of judgment. The school’s Art Appreciation program introduces the children to master artists while developing their own artistic abilities.  Children are invited to express their opinions about the art and then try the medium for themselves. After a recent class, the school hallways were filled with wonderful examples of pointillism. Someday one of our students may have a piece hanging in the Chicago Art Institute next to George Seurat!

Music
Music is a big part of any classroom. Songs help children learn, make transitions easier and build literacy skills. The Music program enriches the experiences the children already are exposed to. The program focuses on age-appropriate praise music and further enhances our Christ-centered philosophy.

Physical Education
RSLS contracts with Stretch-n-Grow to come to the school and teach our students about healthy habits they will need for a lifetime. Children keep moving during the half hour class and giggle all the way through! This program will be offered to our Pre-K students and older.

Computer Lab
A special climate-controlled Computer Lab allows Risen Savior to bring technology to our students in relevant, meaningful ways. Students learn age appropriate computer skills in a safe environment – everything from using a mouse to typing to using Microsoft Office products.
